Full Description
Start your day early with a pickup from a designated location near your accommodation. We will head to the port of Lefkimmi in the south of Corfu. After arriving at the port, we’ll board the ferry, which departs at 6:30 am. The ferry ride lasts approximately 1 hour, and we will arrive at the port of Igoumenitsa on mainland Greece.
From there, we will continue our journey for about 2h 20min to reach Kalambaka, a small town at the base of the Meteora cliffs. During the drive, enjoy the beautiful landscapes of Epirus and Thessaly while traveling along modern highways and scenic winding roads.
Upon arrival in Kalambaka, we’ll make a brief stop at a souvenir shop. You can take a break, use the restroom, explore the handmade icons exhibition, and shop for unique souvenirs from Meteora.
Next, we’ll head to the top of the cliffs to visit the active Meteora monasteries. The complex is home to six monasteries—four for men and two for women. You’ll have the chance to visit one men’s monastery and one women’s monastery. Learn about the rich history and religious traditions of the region as you explore Byzantine architecture, frescoes, and rare icons. Marvel at the wooden winch and netting that once lifted the monks to the monasteries, and see a 16th-century wooden barrel used for transporting goods.
After your monastery visits, we’ll make our way back to Kalambaka for a delicious local lunch at a traditional restaurant. Afterward, we’ll head back to the port of Igoumenitsa for the return journey to Corfu.
